What is a thyroid ultrasound and why is it important?
Thyroid ultrasound is a non-invasive, safe and painless diagnostic method that provides a detailed view of the structure of the thyroid gland using ultrasound waves. What does the review look like?
The examination is short and completely painless. The patient lies on his back while the doctor gently passes the ultrasound probe over the front of the neck. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes , and the results are available immediately after the examination. If changes are identified during the ultrasound that require additional analysis, an FNA (fine needle aspiration) can be performed immediately, thus avoiding additional visits and speeding up the diagnostic process.
